He’s really really really into autocross. They’re like 10.5" wheels.
P. S. You drive a lime green car. I think if anyone should understand ‘to each his own’ it should be you.

That makes more sense. It looks a lot better with the stock wheels but the rear still looks weird. I know people that run those exact same tires daily so I assumed he was one of those. Those tires are great for a really high horsepower cars. Ive driven on these tires at high speeds in light rain and I’m still alive so that tells you something.
“Really really” is an understatement. I don’t get racing around a parking lot either…but to each their own. I knew that was his autocross setup, but the stock wheels look pretty stupid even with the 30mm spacers he has…like I said, waste of an awesome car.
Have you been able to try autocrossing before? It is incredibly fun. Now, once you get into HPDE or other road course events autox becomes a little anticlimactic. But, it is much more accessible and cheap.
I personally would rather have a very light and nimble car for autox than the RS4. But, its good to see someone pushing the boundaries and actually being successful at the same time.
I think he is talking about how he cut and bondo’d his fenders retarded wide in order to fit 315 Hoosier on his rs4… All to compete in an event the miata was intend for.
This is totally a function over form sort of mod. He identified that he would benefit from more tire but you can’t really go any wider than 285 with our stock fender dimensions.
The RS4 competes stock in the B Stock category, which is pretty competitive (FYI, Miata is E or C stock, depending on year). B Stock includes cars like the NSX, E46 M3, C4 Corvette, Lancer EVO, 993 911, Supra turbo, STI, etc. As you can imagine, the weight penalty of the RS4 vs. its rivals makes it no so ideal IMO.
I think he must be competing in the street modified category which is VERY competitive. Most cars competing here have heavy mods. Obviously he is doing something right if he is winning any events and those crazy tires must be contributing a lot to it. So at least he is not doing it just to be “pretty”.
Just like anything else, our cars were not really designed for any type of racing. Kudos to those that take it to the next level, whether it be drag, auto-x, or road courses.
Yes I have auto crossed in a friends STI, was it fun…sure…but going to a nice go-kart track is fun too. Do I think road racing would be fun…yes I do, but I’m not going to take my car out in street trim and go crazy…I’m also not going to buy a set of track wheels, brakes, suspension…etc. to have some guys ride with me while I have fun. If I do a track day it will be in a super car, not a bolt-on S4 or RS4 although they are both awesome cars.
I met a guy who dies by the cones…he has a completed gutted track prepped SRT4 neon! Wide ass tires, tone of suspension…it looks gay, but then again it’s a neon. Doing this to an RS4 to race around a fucking parking lot…blows…my…mind. It isn’t the actual activity itself. There are so many more cars out there that you can strip down, mod out the suspension and beat the shit out of like a Miata (and you’ll dominate). But this guy to a rare ass Audi that they only produced for 2 years and made it look retarded…so he could tear up your local Walmart parking lots.
Having done a track day in a super car (360) before (and also in the RS4, M3, M Coupe, and other cars) I can tell you that it is a blast even if you aren’t “prepped”. Really all you need are better brake pads and fluid. The reality is that, outside of a very practiced driver, you can’t run these street cars to their full potential. I’ve been to an HPDE where a stock camry lapped an E46 M3. Haha, obviously all driver related. And of course I gloated when I consistently lapped seconds faster than a Viper GTS in my 195hp Integra years back.
315… god damn!
Im looking at going 305 on the caddy and i feel like its overkill!!!
[quote=“dparm”]The first round of folks who did it themselves had problems but I believe those kinks have been worked out.
Is VAST a JHM shop? Are you in need of any other maintenance or parts? Might be worth the trip. 3 hours isn’t too bad, really.

lol…ya I was gonna say something to him but it probably wouldn’t have been nice.
He hasn’t had a B6 in how long now? But he loves posting info in the B6/7 forum…and usually it is not very accurate. All I know is he loves his B8 with a stasis tune…but whatever.
His car might run 12.9 @ 108 on that original stasis 91 tune. Might.

Dparm has always been a road course guy from what I remember.
This must suck. Almost as bad as someone wiring your horn to your brakes

In high school we did wire somebody’s horn to their brake lights and it was HILARIOUS!!! It was a Jeep so we didn’t have to open a door to open the hood. The best part was he couldn’t figure out what the big blue wire hanging under the Jeep was for.

Hahaha…this reminds me of the episode where Clarkson and Hammy rewire Mays car so that every time he brakes, the horn sounds.

[QUOTE=dparm;8753531]Any love for the new 3.0TFSI V6? Gobs of power available in that thing and it uses the same 6MT as the B6/B7 S4, I believe.
