MDUBZ Intro and B6 S4 Build Thread

Yes this is the JHM kit. That’s what I thought but wanted to check to make sure.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to those tools otherwise I would have just made it work. I also tried the hardware store too and there was nothing even close. The bolts in the kit are actually modified bolts too, so again something I couldn’t do myself. I got an email from Dru@JHM shortly after I posted this so I think the brackets weren’t done or the bolts are wrong. Leaning towards the bracket as the bolts match the ones in their install instructions.

ya it happens man. doesn’t take much for a machine to be off buy few thou. im sure they’ll make it right and get u some new brackets.

Avalon Motorsports was able to knock out the bracket machining for me. Time to start on the brakes again.

much more gooder!

Rears successfully mounted.

I’ve been wanting some more JHM logos on my car lol.

Definitely one of the easiest mod installs ever. Time for some beer and then the fronts

3 of 4 corners completed.

Now, while I was working on the front, I noticed a small puddle.

After further investigation

It would appear as if some brake fluid evacuated the slave cylinder? Probably while I was compressing the rear caliper pistons. That would be my best guess. Is that bad?

nope I do that all the time. just don’t get brake fluid on any paint work it can eat paint. to avoid the spillage just twist your c clamp slowly and smoothly. hard and fast makes it squirt lol.

looks good man.

Thanks, that’s a relief. Just noticed my rear rotors are mounted on the wrong sides haha.

I had them do the brakes on my car before I bought it and the guy that put them on did that on the rear too. I just switched them around last month when I did the suspension.

4th corner mounted and now the rear rotors are on the right side. Time to bleed.

well I’m jealous. lol not only for that brake setup for but the suspension as well

Finished finally. Got the brakes all bled. Tested the pedal afterwards and it was solid. I went around to all 4 corners again just to be sure because I had a decent amount of fluid left. Got it on the ground and tested the pedal again and it’s a rock. The pedal barely even moves and then it’s like you’re trying to push the ground with your foot. The pressure bleeder was a great investment and I couldn’t be happier that I bought it.

Now of course the goal is to bed them properly without killing somebody or going to jail and since it’s dark outside, I’m gonna wait.

Oh and for all those curious, I didn’t need any spacers. I had a ton of room left over. I was able to easily confirm this beforehand by removing the stock caliper and just tucking it up above the lower control arms. Afterwards there was enough space to quickly bolt the new caliper and test fit the wheel with a rotor before undoing the brake lines.

minty!

Got them seated correctly today. 80-5 mph two times in a row and no police involvement. Couldn’t help but notice the terrible smell the brakes made when doing this.

which pads did you get?

when I bed pads in on my race car, I usually take it on the street before a race weekend. Can’t waste a qualifying session to bed in brakes lol knock on wood, never had police stop me yet

I got the Hawk ceramic street pads. I’m surprised they wouldn’t let you do that on the track really quick. Doesn’t take long. I waited for a good clearing to turn onto the street I used and just took off. By the time I got through the second stop I only had one car in the rear view.

lol I bet that sucker leaves most things in the rear view far far behind.

still waitin for some videos o u beatin on it a bit.

At the SCCA events, we don’t get practices. We go straight into qualifying so no time to bed in brakes unfortunately. The only practice you can get is the test day which is usually on a Thursday before the actual event but its sometimes hard enough getting Friday off work just for qualifying.

At the time I was doing my brakes, I wanted to get the Hawk’s but the front pads were on back order. I was in a rush to get brakes done so I could go to SOWO. I called Carbotech who I use in the race car and they sent me a XP10’s. They are awesome at stopping, but they like to squeal and the brake dust is killer lol

In what SCCA class do you compete?

Spec miata where everyone cheats lol ill post some of my SM stuff on my thread so we dont cluster MDUBZ thread too much
