MDUBZ Intro and B6 S4 Build Thread

So 3Zero3 Motorsports pulled through with a new and updated head unit for my car for free to make up for everything.

I’ve been considering just selling it and getting an RNS-E but I think I’m going to keep it. It has really great integration with Apple products so may as well give it a try.

Love the guys at 3zero3!

Glad you had a good experience with them. This stereo is because I didn’t. But hey, they bought me a new stereo so I can be too upset.

Here’s how it looks in the car:

Not bad so far, just gotta get Apple CarPlay installed and I should be good.

Probably 133 times better than Rnse!

I was thinking it’s a good compromise. I really like the OEM feel of the Audi stereos.

Nice, good to see they tried to keep a customer instead of telling you to fuck off. This means they admitted to their mistake of not really knowing what they were doing so just be aware of that in the future.

That stereo looks quite oem ish. I like it

whats with the paint always bubbling off the esp button on b6s. my b6 did the same thing. i hated it once i peeled it all of cuz its white underneath so i just painted it black.

You’ve got to appreciate modifications that not only look good but they work gold as well. Impressive build thread.

It is definitely one of the most OEM feeling head units I’ve seen. Thanks.

I don’t know but it sucks. It wasn’t like that when I dropped my car off back in April 2013 for the engine build. I was able to find one on aliexpress.com for $25. I also thought about pulling it out and painting it. I was thinking red though maybe haha.

Yeah it’s definitely better than the last head unit I had. Still working on downloading Apple CarPlay for it. Thanks.

Man, I keep seeing posts like this and considering a RSNE. Too bad a 2010 A3 RSNE conversion would badly eat into my budget for other things.

I agree.

What would it take to do something like that? The brand new ones are obviously much nicer and lightyears ahead of the ones from the B6/7. Is the 2010 A3 RNSE similar enough in size that it’d be a direct or close to direct fit?

We really should ask Datadatum about price since I think he has it. He has been posting in the thread on AZ that I have been reading.

From what I have seen it is like $2K to $3K for the updated RSNE plus all the cables and stuff to make it work with a B6 S4. Then between $500 to $1K for the back up camera.

The newer RSNE shows traffic info from TMC and I would want the back up camera since I don’t use my mechanical lock on the trunk lid anyways. My car has a trunk lid from another car and I never swapped over the locking portion.

It would be nice if there is a way to get the Video In Motion to work with the updated RSNE. I have not found any posts that say that it does.

I am also looking into if you can stream music because it was mentioned in that above thread.

Video in motion isn’t just a simple VAGCOM re-code?

i have a Gen 2 rnse. However i moved from a B7 with a gen 1 rnse so i dont konw how much a difference that makes.

All in for me was 1600 bucks. that was the RNSE gen 2 WITH AMI. I did not do backup camera. The Newer version i believe will NOT support backup camera. i may be wrong. If you have further questions on the newer versions i bought mine from neozawa@gmail.com. He was extremely easy to work with and very helpful.

So I decided to give up on the Stern rear end links because I noticed for the first time that both were broken the other day. I picked up a pair of the 034 Motorsports links and I’m hoping they are much better.

If they last longer than a week without breaking they will be better for me.

where do they break at? any idea whats causing them to break?

If you look closely in the following picture you can see the main vertical bolt is breaking.

Here it is by itself.

Not sure what could be causing them to break. I remember hearing them break a few times back in Illinois when I’d pull into my driveway which had a pretty decent incline from the street. I’d always pull into the driveway from the same side of the street so it was at an angle rather than straight on. That caused a lot of the load to be taken off of the inner rear wheel and I’d hear them pop. I didn’t have a curb and would always pull in extra careful but they’d still break.

Anything you can think of that might be causing this? It doesn’t seem like anybody else has issues with them from what JHM has told me. That sure would suck if I had the same exact problems with the 034 links.

I find it hard to believe that you turning into your driveway would put enough load on the outside tire and lifted the inner tire to just snap the end link. The sway bar on our TA2 car has endlinks half the size of ours. Thin as shit. Never once have we broke one.

The only thing I can see happening is the sway bar shifting from side to side. When it shifts, it moves the endlink to its furthest point. While the end link has moved its max distance, it can’t move any further and snaps.

I thought the same thing. Didn’t think of it shifting left and right because it’s bolted in there nice and tight. Is there something that I can do to prevent that?
