My B6 S4 JHM SC Install

Can you post a link to that video? Pretty pleeeeeeease

Only because you said please

Ahhhhh yes. Thanks Joe. I’ve seen that vid before and love it. The Rage playing at the beginning along with the JHM s/c gives me goosebumps…haha. Didn’t know that yellow B7 was the infamous ngng.

I took a couple of quick videos inside the car (I will post later) and it is difficult to hear the blower.

Edit- Here are the vids. They are relatively short…

not bad, can’t wait till it is broken in. You can def here that there is something menacing in that car

The noise at idle is more noticeable in person. Again not bad, but you can tell in is there.

Now that I am through my post suberbowl excitement (GO GMen!!), here is a quick update. I am past the 500 miles and have got on it a bit. The car moves out. I have not had enough road yet to really strech its leg, but soon. Unfortunately, the dreaded CEL popped. Nothing big, Bank 2 Sensor 2 heater isn’t working (dammit). I will have to check it out either tonight or tomorrow.

What’s that code mean? Sensor heater? Weird.

Post up a 3/20/21 in the logging thread soon!

I cannot remember the actual code, but yes the heater for the O2 isn’t working so it triggers the CEL. I am not sure if it is pulling back any performance, but I will be changing it before logging (coming soon).

cool. Isn’t that the PITA o2 sensor to get to?

I think sensor two is the easy one to get to - right under the car.

Yep, Joe’s right. The 2nd sensors are the ones underneath the car so they are easy to get to. The problem is getting to all the clips that hold the wires in place. I was at my buddy’s shop the other day discussing the job. He looked up the book time and it was ridiculous. Something like 6.9 hours for one and another 4.3 for the other. I told him there is no way it takes that long (it usually takes me a bit over an hour to do both). When I got home I looked in Bentley and in their steps they have you drop the sub frame and remove the axle heat shields so you can get access to the wires.

Til don’t believe everything the Bentley tells you. Speed, cliff notes on how you approach the task?

I would replace all 4 sensors if you have the cash. The extra air from the S/C might kill them anyway

The front are relatively new, I changed them not too long ago. The backs are new.

After doing all the standard stuff I unplug the connectors and the go under the car and unscrew the O2s. Once they are out, I reach my hand along the tranny to get the wire out as many spots as possible. It is pretty tight so I can only get a couple. For the rest I use a screwdriver to pop them out. Since they cannot be seen you have to do it by feel. The next step is pretty much snaking them out.

(I have 2 O2 wrenches and an O2 socket set that helps me get to the tight spots)

passenger side S2 is easy…but I thought driver side S2 was a pain? When my B1 S2 sensor died a couple of people said it was easy and it’s a good thing it wasn’t the other one. Maybe they meant S1.

when jay from JHM did mine at a meet his technique was pretty neat. He just cut the end off undernearth, then went up top, disconnected the sensor, and pulled it out and the wire from the top. It left the sheath attached to the trans, which is fine. Then he ran the new one up and pinned it in. Just saved him from having to deal with the PITA of getting in to undo/cut every tie.

I think B2 S2 is actually easier than B1 S2. Once the coolant resevior is out of the way there isn’t much that is in the sensors path. Both front sensors are a pita, but not too bad if you have the rigt tool. The biggest problem with the front sensors is that there is very little room to get a tool in. I found that an O2 socket with a long extension works best.

cool. What’s the deal then…sensor is fine…but something else?

It was the sensor, the CEL is gone.

Nice.
