So if someone sucks at the 1/4, why would they be any better at lapping? and what is the point of having a car that is “this fast” when your not the one that drove it “that fast”
Road course guys can have a million excuses…tires, suspension setup, sway bars, brake setup, etc… and I’m sure they use every one.

I never said “EASY as” I was saying there are less variables. Drag racing isn’t easy, but all you have to do is drive straight. I completely agree, SHIFTING is the biggest part, but once you dial in your launch and shift your golden.
I have never had a run with a 60’ better than 1.9x. Like I said I usually am in the 2.0 to 2.1 range. On the 13.0 at 110mph, I was 2.2 seconds! On the 13.0 @107.6 I was at 2.1 seconds. On the 13.13 @ 106.x I was at 1.97. In fact its on dragtimes…

Maybe there’s more to focus on in a road course than only shifting. On a 1/4 mile, other than keeping the steering wheel straight, there’s not much else to focus on BUT the shift itself? So when the road course drivers go on the 1/4 mile, they’re slower. Oh, and maybe the road course guys typically try and keep their tranny alive longer? They shift a lot more overall. Shifting as hard as 1/4 mile runs every shift for who knows how many laps might be tough on the tranny. I’m only guessing here. Could be way off.
The good thing is, someone who knows how to read a timeslip will see those high 60ft times and know the car has more potential.
To be honest Saki, the reason I didn’t buy a JHM exhaust is not because I didn’t like the sound, I told Dan I would buy one if he had it available and they never were able to produce it. I told Dan I would buy their coilover kit if it worked well, and they never were able to get a set on their car.
Yes, I have said I didn’t like the sound, but that was comparing to a Milltek and a GMG exhaust, probably the two best sounding ones out there. Additionally, at the time I heard it on Mick’s car it was brand new and he had the high flow cats installed. The exhaust I heard on Dan’s car sounded different, I think he didn’t have resonators or something.
The JHM exhaust has a very high pitch sound to it, but sounds aggressive. Our exhaust, while it sounds very similar, has a slightly more metallicy race sound to it. Sort of like the Corsa exhaust for a Corvette, without the American exhaust sound. Hard to explain, you have to hear it. The exhausts do really break in, I didn’t really believe it until I kept noticing the rasp disappear on mine. It really has no rasp now, and has only gotten a little louder. I believe much of the change in sound between ours and JHM has to do with the less restrictive X-pipe, similar to our 996 Turbo exhaust(where we used the same design parameters for the crossover), it has a different sound than most other similar exhausts with different cross profiles.
I am uploading some videos of the exhaust on the car a couple weeks ago so you can get a sense of what it sounds like. When we do the Dyno’s on Denis’ car, I will be sure to shoot some videos. Unfortunately when we did dyno’s with Mick’s car and mine, the GoPro was set on picture mode so we didn’t get any video, only photos!

As for this 1/4 mile vs road course talk its kind of silly
1/4 mile = a great test of how the car is able to accelerate. It is also a ton of fun. Its also pretty easy on the car despite what some will say. The engine is pushed to 7500 or so rpms and shifted. No big deal. The launch on a stock setup is fine if done properly. Blowing your clutch means you fucked up. I’ve never heard of a b7 hurting an axle from launching but that’s a concern some people have. Axles arre as cheap as chips however. You’ll spend more on tire wear and gasoline at 2 road course days so I don’t know why people point to this all the time.
Road course = a useless test for how the car accelerates due to the eighty million variables. It is more a great test of the character of the car. It is also a ton of fun. It is very hard on the car. You have brake and tire wear that is off the charts…suspension strain and lateral g’s that help your car develop creaks and fatigue parts over time. Then there are the numerous money shifted cars we’ve seen come home from the road course in a bodybag. Not to mention crashing lol.
Both different, neither is what the car was designed for. They’re both fun, and neither is better. Its like saying chocolate is better than strawberry. Or a stripped car is better than a stock weight car. Chacun son gout.
