That is exactly what it does. There are two transmissions mounted side by side, when one gear is engaged the next gear is already spinning at the proper speed waiting to be engaged. When the car shifts it quickly releases clutch one and engages clutch two

no, it’s because big tire 8 or 9 second drag cars need lining up straight…so that they’re in the groove, and because if they don’t start straight, they hit the fucking wall hard. Or the guy in the other lane.
