I have shithead people on my street calling cops on everyone all the time. Havnt had a complaint yet on my car ;D But i dont act a foo’ when i take off though. I wait till i hit the main which is about half a mile out.

Mick’s exhaust is louder than I would ever want on my car. Sounds great at a track, but in neighborhoods and backing out of the garage it is too much, in my opinion. I can’t imagine what no resonators might do to that system.

With that said, Ben’s does sound nice. What I’ve found though, is that while you can kind of get a sense for the tone of an exhaust on a video, you can’t really understand the true volume of it without experiencing it in person.

My wife talks about how my car (Piggies, ECS H pipe) kind of rattles the house when I pull into the garage…I can only imagine what Mick’s sounds like in that case. I know it is loud as shit just when he pulls in the driveway!

Welcome to AR - good to hear your input. The more people who have 1st hand experience with something like this that chime in the better. I agree, videos are good but limited in getting a true sense of how good something sounds. Bora’s S4 and saki’s old S4 are cases in point - both catless FI setups which sound good on the video but oh so much better in person.

We do have a decibel meter so we can compare it to another exhaust setup if you can find somebody with it.

Yes, it is loud, but it isn’t terrible. It is actually legal in California (sound wise at least), <95 decible @ 4’ from the exhaust tip, 45 degree off the back of the car at 4000RPM no load.

Yeah resonators are a non starter for me, I am already too loud for a daily.

Looks like my car will be with Sunset until I get home from Boston, SF and Milwaukee over the next couple weeks. So they can take their time fixing stuff.

you guys should do a video side by side…same camera, same angles/proximity, same conditions, same environment. That way it’s easy to pick any differences without a bunch of variables.

Go to the strip, do some pulls, do some side by side videos, then see what you guys can run. Lots of homework for you!

If I can find somebody to do that with, I am more than happy to do so. Keep in mind the JHM will sound different anyways because they have resonators and ours doesn’t. Unfortunate for us when Mick and I did dynos his GoPro got left on photo mode so it didn’t record any video

Comparing the sounds is a little irrelevant in my opinion. My reasoning is this, unlike power, sound of an exhaust isn’t really a measurable thing. If one exhaust makes a lot of power, that is good, until you see a different one makes more, that effects your decisions. With sound however, if one sounds good and the other sounds good, you don’t use that to decide, you look at other qualities and go from there. I feel that there are so many videos of exhaust filmed with every kind of camera that, like you say, it is impossible to get a true comparison between them.

Anyways, next time I get it back and can put the car on the lift I will take some photos of the exhaust from under the car. Mick and I got plenty of good photos of the two exhausts next to each other which you can clearly see the differences between them. I may wait on posting those photos until later.

That’s ‘2000S4’, George from Toronto. His brother drives it now. Car ran 12.28 @ 112.45 that day, when my Rs4 ran 13.1 @ 106 same track, same day. The first in car race is filmed from my car. You can see he gets a little head start, but flies away all the way down the track.

If you bought one of Mick’s calenders, I believe that car is Miss September.

To be honest Saki, the reason I didn’t buy a JHM exhaust is not because I didn’t like the sound, I told Dan I would buy one if he had it available and they never were able to produce it. I told Dan I would buy their coilover kit if it worked well, and they never were able to get a set on their car.

Yes, I have said I didn’t like the sound, but that was comparing to a Milltek and a GMG exhaust, probably the two best sounding ones out there. Additionally, at the time I heard it on Mick’s car it was brand new and he had the high flow cats installed. The exhaust I heard on Dan’s car sounded different, I think he didn’t have resonators or something.

I’m waiting until 73K miles & change or July 2013…I’ll hit the mielage first, I’m at 65,XXX now. The whole extended warranty thing as I’ve explained previously.

If you do exhaust, does that mean you will tuned as well? Or are you going spacers for a time period and then tune?

Trust me I’m dying over here - I have the intake spacers sitting in my garage and the full exhaust and the JHM flash cable…about to order the Stage IV clutch & lwfw and pick up the lwcp from Dan if he still has it. (My oem clutch is near the end of it’s life span). I already have the lw rotors on all four corners so once I hit the mileage I’ll be tuned, full exhaust, lw everything JHM etc. I’ll be set for a while, I think.

Fixed the smoke fiasco - got the new motor etc. All is good. I had to change my original plan due to how the dealer stepped in and helped me get the new motor. Out of respect for them, I’m choosing to wait until the ext warranty period is up. I can PM you the details, I’ve stated them before but don’t want to repeat it here.
