I had to google that word…your vocab is much better than mine.
Hey…my house is not one of those. I bought a cheap house in a well off neighborhood.
One of the houses we went by recently sold for a little over 2M and they pay 48K per year in property taxes…therefore I try not to speed down their street out of respect.
Just capristo and 20k into my last CC. Was tuned for a few miles but went back to stock. I think Mark is running a tune, miltek cb and about to put on some dp’s.
as for that race, it’s kind of awkward. Mistro and I did it because he has a 90,000 km (55,000 miles) RS4 . When we first met I asked him how he liked the car, and he said ‘I think I have a carbon problem’.
I had just returned from the dragstrip where I ran 12.94 @ 107.7. Clearly I don’t have any carbon buildup right? I mean nobody can run 12.94 @ 107.7 in an RS4 with carbon buildup right?
So I suggested we do a pull in 3rd gear to see how bad it really was. We equalised the weight in the two cars, and lined up from around 30mph…then rode third gear out to the 100 mph rev limiter. The difference was maybe 1 foot gained by my car. So we could surmise that his car was also capable of a 12.9 @ 107 run, thus he’s not really losing all that much to his 55,000 miles of carbon buildup.
Since then my car has gone 12.75 @ 108.36. Bone stock. Oh…and it has never been carbon cleaned in 35,000 miles. I really think the RS4 community needs to worry less about carbon buildup and more about their driving and enjoying a great car. The claims that carbon kills the car are overblown. Not that it doesn’t suck…I am sure I am losing a little top end…and I am not happy at the prospect of a chunk of carbon making it’s way into the cylinder and scoring a wall like happened to BenSTi’s car…but I don’t think it’s knocking 40-50 hp off the table the way people are acting. The biggest loss is from about 7500-8250 RPM with carbon buildup…and I shift around 7500-7600 at the strip or in pulls while WOT so I am not too concerned about that zone. My logs and timeslips tell me the car falls off a bit up top.
Just basic stuff… milltek catback, unitronic tune, K&n drop-in, 034 maf hose, JHM lightweight rotors, and i just picked up the 2.5" XS downpipes from your buddy swesna.
Unfortunately though, I got into a fender bender in the RS4 this past weekend so it will be in the shop for a little bit getting fixed up. Then the downpipes will go on.
Oh and hello by the way, nice to meet everyone, I lurked here for a while but decided to make an account. Looking forward to more info and developments with the B7 RS4 platform.
that’s an interesting list. Car should do well. You guys need to do some stock vs. modded vs. modded pulls (you three from the video).
The Unitronic tune is one we know very little about. kryptonik had it with full milltek, then went PES supercharged and said it was night and day faster/better than before, then had unitronic tune the supercharger kit…ran 12.6 @ 110 PES supercharged/uni tuned on a great conditions night (not so good considering that’s only 1 tenth and 2mph faster than my stock time, and is slower than elevens’ 12.5 @ 110 with just a GIAC 93 tune)…
…then he ditched the supercharger and went full JHM exhaust and tune and proclaimed it significantly better than his supercharger setup, and that was validated when a couple other guys with the same full JHM setup went 12.2 @ 112 with it, quite a bit quicker than his old PES/UNI supercharged best 12.6 @ 110.
…then he ditched the JHM stuff to go back to milltek + unitronic…which we know was slower than his supercharger setup…and the supercharger setup was slower than his JHM setup.
Weird!
Anyway, welcome to the forum. Looking forward to seeing more about your car. How about the fender bender…front or back?
Thanks saki! Yea, the Unitronic tune is nothing to write home about honestly. Most tunes for this car don’t seem to be significant enough to feel them from the seat of your pants (sans maybe the JHM tune), but it removes the speed limiter, and I’m sure will help with the other supporting modifications I have.
As far as the fender bender… it was my fault unfortunately. I was coming off a highway onto an offramp, going a little faster than I should have been, I hit a patch of gravel and hit the guardrail with the front driver’s side fender. The guardrail also dented up my doors a little bit and destroyed either a control arm or some other suspension related piece in the driver’s side front.
At the end of the day, I’m ok, and nobody else was hurt due to my own ignorance, so I’m just happy to be alive. Yes I had been drinking and no I am not proud of it. I have a lot to deal with now but I am taking it a day at a time.
Drinking and driving is fucking stupid and I feel embarrassed and ashamed of myself. Not to mention, I mistreated a beautiful car and now have to drive a damn Chevy Malibu for a couple weeks. :-[
Hope you never do that again and consider yourself lucky you didn’t kill yourself or worse, others around you.
When any of my friends come close to drinking and driving (rare but it’s happened), I simply ream the shit out of them till they give me their keys. It’s an inexcusable mistake.
Anyway, good luck in getting your car back. Hope they do a good job fixing it.
oh snap…hope you didn’t get charged? Looks like you were lucky enough to learn the lesson without fucking up anyone…just the car.
as for the tune, as long as unitronics removes the torque limiter, that’s a bonus chunk of torque for you, so that’s nice. That 1-2-3 gear 5250 and lower torque limiter burns my bollucks. From there I think you’re right in your analysis of the tunes. Actually take a look at this thread…outlines some of the other offerings out there and as you can see it’s all pretty equal, including the supposedly superior ‘EPL custom’ offering.
exactly. I would throw a Milltek resonated valved catback if I could get a deal on one. I was going to buy one last year (saw it on craigslist). Milltek fullback + rs4 plate delete filler panel for $750!!! By the time I got to the guy, it was sold.
I was talking to a friend a few days later and he mentioned he had a milltek RS4 catback for sale. I told him about the craigslist ad and he started laughing…he was the one who bought it, just to resell on the forums. Probably made $1500 doing that.Bugger!
Oh trust me man, I am completely embarrassed and ashamed that I did this. I’ve never in my life done something like this and my record is squeaky clean. Err, WAS squeaky clean. It sucks and I definitely will NOT do anything like this again. I could have really hurt myself or worse, someone else and I wouldn’t have been able to live myself if I injured someone else due to my own IGNORANCE.
I am upset about it but at the same time, it happened, I fucked up, and I am trying to put it in my past and move forward. The body shop I took the car too got good reviews and the owner is a family friend, so they are doing everything 110%. Thanks for the kind words.
I did get charged with a DUI, blew over the legal limit according to their breathalyzer. Like I said, I’ve never fucked up like this and I can’t believe I lost my self control to literally not have an ounce of judgement.
I will be losing my license for a max of 7 months, but first offense with a clean record, may get it down to 3. I deserve it. I fucked up but the thing is, I am man enough to admit that. I can’t change the decision I made, but I can make ABSOLUTELY FUCKING SURE that I will never do something so god damn stupid for the rest of my existence on this planet. You guys have my word on that.
When the car comes back, I will still be putting the downpipes on, and probably the Rotiform SNA’s (cast), and will regularly start her up for the 3 months I have to wait to drive her again. :-\
Glad to hear you and no one got hurt…really sorry to hear about this as my wife and I know you are a good guy…ppl make mistakes like you said move forward and learn from it.
not to go off topic or anything but if no one else was involved then how did you manage to get a DUI? I feel like there was no reason to call the cops on that one
When I hit the curb before the guardrail, it must have broken a control arm or something in the front left suspension components. The car wasn’t drivable. Not to mention, I would never leave the scene of accident like that anyway.
Thanks Steve! I appreciate the kind words. It was a poor judgement call on my part and I am now paying the consequences. I am just happy I didn’t hurt anybody else in the process. The car is fixable and I still have my health. It could have been much, much worse and I just want to put this behind me and move forward.
I can’t WAIT to get the car back and I hope it’s before I have to relinquish my license because these downpipes are staring me in the face.
