Call Jason Harbinson @ JHmotorsports (Jhmotorsports.com for phone #) and tell him you hear from me that he was looking for a local B8 S4. He has a B8 S5 4.2 but they want to check fitment of a couple of things on a B8 S4. Might be worth your while. Negotiate hard for a clutch deal while you’re at it.
Yes, I’m stage 2 with a rock-euro intake and a lot of other non-engine stuff. PM me if I’ll need any more than your forum name to talk to JHM. I already have their short shifter and have visited their new site 3-4 times.
I’ve said $12k for a full kit all along (kit, tune, cooling), so I’ll stick with that. I could see it being slightly higher with the CPS, but I think the $12-14k is likely.
You’re one of the few who are already wrong. You said under $10,000, not $12k+CPS.
Rather than realize that some of us just know what we are talking about, you instead tried to make it out that I was ‘hating the fact’ that the b8 kit was less than $10,000. No, some people just know what APR charges for first release stuff. Arin has also clarified that you are wrong now.
That’s what i was told at the time, last summer and fall, and was before they redesigned it. I did mention that it could cost a couple Grand more, if they find anything last minute. Read my post you quoted.
Either way, I am most likely going to be selling my car. But I am still very curious what final cost, power figures and quarter mile/60-130 numbers will be like…
Eventually I am hoping to purchase another B8 S4 and will most likely go with this stg3 upgrade as soon as I have possession of the car in about a year or so. We finally found the house of our dreams and will be closing soon, mortgage payment will not be cheap! ! That’s why I am almost forced to sell it
just giving the thread a much needed bump, since there seems to actually be a stage 3 kit now, and since APR is no longer on the verge of what appeared to be a technical bankruptcy, and it has been taken over by their debtor.
My vote was for $12,000 for stage 3 for the B8 1740 supercharger. I’m sticking with it.
The B7 RS4 kit is still in the $19,000 range, and hasn’t really come down from there. To be clear, we’re talking about the total cost. The RS4 kit showed up as something like $17,500 not including upgraded fuel pumps…which you need. Which was another $1500 or so. So really it’s $19,000. Saying it’s $17,500 is like charging $6,000 for the stage 3 kit but then mentioning this doesn’t include a $13,000 supercharger and manifold and hoses etc.
Agree with the few above posts… Somewhere in the $12-13k range for everything. I could see it going a little higher, but I’d be shocked if it was under $12k.
Some new rumors over on the AZ thread. hodrosS42001 (have no idea who this is) posted up saying that APR has been selling the kit to various customers, and according to him the there are 2 different packes:
Supercharger, Tune, APR’s cooling system - 10K
Supercharger, Tune - 6K
I have no idea if he’s blowing smoke up everyone’s asses or what, but thought I’d throw it out there.
I guess that could make sense (ballpark price of $10k complete) if Magnuson sells the S/C component. Cutting out the middle man, and what is likely a higher level of efficiency on Magnuson’s end, could make that a reality.
I see several logistical issues that would need to be addressed like what if another tuner wants to offer a tune, what if someone like me has the AMS Alpha coolant system and an existing APR tune, etc. Either way, if Magnuson sells directly, I think it would help bring the cost down. My guess is something like $6-7k for the S/C, another $2k for the coolant system, and another $1.5-2k for the tune…
cutting out what middle man? These are APR packages according to that thread
I don’t get why the cooling system is $4,000. George made his own for $500.
edit: I see now. So magnusson is selling the kit? Funny how APR got cut out of that deal. Guess when you fire 80% of your staff, including all the smart guys, you can’t really make anything.
