That price is not too bad im glad to see it is reachable and should be really good for the b8 guys. The only issue now is how fast did the test stage 3 car actually go

My guess is the project evolved into something APR/Mangrove weren’t willing to keep throwing money at. I’m sure at some point Magnuson stepped in to finish whatever was needed on the S/C side, and APR was willing to offer the rest.

With that said, let’s see. Etek has it listed as an APR product with an APR tune included in the $10k price (no cooling apparently).

Regardless of who ultimately sells it, I’m looking forward to results. Shld be an interesting season at the track for the B8 guys!

Did they ever tell how fast the one test car went with the stage 3

I believe I’ve heard Arin/Sean mutter some “there will be some new records this fall”, but nothing substantive or objective.

funny the giant horsepower numbers

“500 whp and mid 600s at the crank”

ok…Arin already posted the dynos, and they were not 500 whp. Further, are they seriously using 30% drivetrain loss?

So dumb.

Reality?

450 whp and about 525-550 at the crank. Anyone want to bet on THAT?

The RS4 with their 1740 is making barely 500 whp in the APR testing, but on customer cars, they’re only hitting 450 or so. Standard dyno bullshit.

What kind of times are you guys thinking for the new blower? I think we discussed it at some point.

Predictions on pump and race gas?

Depends. Do you believe the bullshit lies that Eurotek is spreading? i.e. 500 whp and 650 at the crank? lol.

450 whp on pump gas should be almost attainable. I’m talking average dyno, not happy dyno, not heartbreaker dyno.

If so, I bet 11.6 @ 120 for a DSG and 11.7 @ 121 for a manual.

on race gas, 11.3@123 for a DSG and 11.4 @ 124 for a manual

If that is accurate, it makes you wonder…is $10,000 worth it for about 4 mph of trap speed?

If that was me, it would be a real decision between that and selling the S4, buying a used S6 and tune it. there’s your low 11s.

Of course if you have a 5 year old S4 that is worth $25,000 that’s another story.

Haha you know I could not care less what a dyno chart said. If it was me, I’d rip it up and ask Eurotek for a time slip instead.

Those numbers you posted are probably pretty close to what we’ll see. We’ve got a couple of 11.5s on fully maxed out mods, so probably a few tenths better than that (on race gas). I think some predicted the car would break into the 10s, but I don’t think that’s realistic.

I agree with Saki’s times, i can’t see anything significantly improved in the 5000-7000 rpm range to generate times better than these. These may be the top times - I’ll bet mostly high 11.8-9 pump and 11.5-6 race for the typical runs, and sakis times topping the charts. It’s still pretty impressive.

I can imagine the midrange will be potentially brutal, especially on race gas if the blower is efficient - and we have no idea until we see some logs. That would make it an interesting daily driving consideration.

I think I’d do it if I knew 3.0T replacement blocks were getting cheap - otherwise, I’d wait until the tuning is 100% sorted out and is seen enough logs to know it’s safe.

Primetime what’s the word? You’re in yet? Anyone else here?
And what happened to the shredded belt thread? Curious about any potential failure with our cars.

It was suggested that the thread be edited due to the pending warranty work. Since this would have required editing nearly everyone’s posts, I moved the thread out of public view for the time being.

Gotcha. That’s nice of you - and smart for the owner.

Made your rep 100 for that

Haha thnx!

J, What’s up bud! Long time no talk… I’ll speak of facts I know for sure and then my opinions, unfortunately lots more opinion than fact so take it for what it’s worth…

Facts: No, I don’t have the blower unfortunately… APR has either been pretty tight lipped when I inquire or not even replied and I’m not one to keep bugging/begging them for either data or product. Last I left it they were going to ask Magnuson if I could test one. If they/Magnuson don’t want me to have it so be it as there’s nothing I can do about it and bitching and moaning doesn’t do me or anyone else any good.

Opinions: I think Richi has it through one of the “dealers” in NJ… As for the overall situation I’m personally very disappointed in how this has played out, but there is not much I can do about it. Again, I’ve asked…

With that out of the way I think it’s more a result of the new ownership and how they are constructing their business model. It’s of my opinion that they are moving away from a controlled distribution network for hardware and focusing much more on software/services. Corsa is now selling B8/8.5 exhausts through ECS, no mention of APR on them… See link below… I believe the same approach is being taken on the blower(s)… I reached this thought based on the premature EC/ACLAB8S4 post about the blower and now the Eurtek post on the blower. RSW also recently said they’ll be releasing shortly… It’s of my belief that Magnuson is dealing with the APR network directly and APR will now just provide the software and fuel pump upgrade. I don’t think they have a lot of leverage on who Magnuson chooses to beta/test it/get first kits/whatever you want to call it. I think they prefer to move them through the dealers and not direct to consumers like myself. I’d guess you won’t be able to purchase through Magnuson but instead will need to order through a dealer, I’m not even sure APR will sell and if that’s the case I’m not buying it as I refuse to support a company(insert dealer name) that really adds no value. I like many others could do the install on my own and will NOT support paying someone to do this and if I do it will be my Audi dealership as I know them very well and if things get sideways I’ll take my chances with them over some independent dealer.

What bums me out the most is how long we(the community) has waited for this product and how I was asked years(yes plural) ago to help and if my car could be used as the beta DSG car. I immediately offered it and was willing to basically cover all costs including shipment of the car, blower cost, etc. This never happened and while I believe it was for the right reasons(blower/tuning issues) it still stings a little and now with the business model change, I’m just another customer that needs to get in line and wait. This may sound like a form of entitlement and perhaps it is and we all know how no one likes to hear that but again it still hurts. I feel I’ve always done what they’ve asked of me be it getting logs, hitting the strip, doing pulls on the street, sending videos, not posting things, etc.

Again, all of the above is my opinion and I by no means hold any ill will towards APR and especially the folks I’ve dealt with over the last 10-15 years, remember I had a 2000 B5 for 10 years and ran APR products on that. They’ve been great and have gone above and beyond to help me so I don’t want this to come across as me bitching about APR as that’s not the point. They let me test the original tune on the B8, gave me the race files, made me custom files, let me get the pulley very early, let me beta the DSG, etc and I realize it’s a business and times change as do the players so it is what it is… I hope when they read this they are not offended by it and don’t hold it against me as that is not my intent of this post, you asked so I gave my opinions! Maybe I’m wrong and I guess time will tell.

My S4 and TTRS have been toys for me and maybe it’s time to make the S4 a car and buy another toy and let others push the envelope!

Hope all is well with you man!

Hey man! I echo your sentiments about the blower, you should have been one of the first in line for a pre-order and test. You’ve marketed for them on your own budget, FWIW things like beta files that you (and I) have gotten are usually free upgrades later, and as you and I and several others know are at your risk.

I wonder if your involvement here at AR matters - it shouldn’t, because it’s a great forum for the B8 - facts talk and BS walks. I’ve learned a ton. Doesn’t mean I like all the drama, but sometimes it’s fine as long as everyone knows everyone is entitled to their opinion. I hope this is not lost on APR and I’d imagine the membership count vs per page hit shows that a LOT of people come here for solid information.

I just can’t see it making much more power than a tapped out stage II setup that’s already pulling 11.5-11.6 race/11.9-12.0 pump. Based on the logs we see, unless the blower is a LOT more efficient, and ignition timing isn’t required to be mapped to “full retard”, I worry about results similar to what happened on the 1740 RS4. Or excessive fueling to mask or band-aid a time bomb.

I picked up an almost-new facelift C63 with the 6.2, it’s a hoot and already been to the track a couple times. It’s got the forged 480 hp motor and now 245/275 rubber, I don’t think it really needs much else! It unfortunately met with an accident with an 83 year old lady that turned left in front of me oncoming, in the rain…I’ll have it back in a couple weeks. She’s lucky I avoided her and didn’t cream that little Hyundai she was driving, she tried to drive off even but I got her flagged down by another witness.

Interesting thought on the blower, prime.

From the ‘leaked’ Eurotek screenshot (seriously, is there such poor control/discipline in the channel - this is the second time no?), I was surprised to see no ‘APR’ labeling on the ‘Magnuson’ box. Perhaps terms of the settlement?

I’m wondering if you can then ‘drop ship’ it through a dealer of your choosing (if you can’t get it directly).

FWIW - when Eurotek had the supercharger kit listed on their actual website (they took it down - surprise!) - the photos of the blower they used did have the big old APR logo on top.

Thanks for pointing that out (I didn’t check).

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard (on their part). Makes zero sense . You should have been the first person they called. Rynurz second. Sounds like they went through their favourite dealers
"find us your best customer "so they could get testing and feedback etc.

[quote]Opinions: I think Richi has it through one of the “dealers” in NJ…

Eurotek are Ricki’s buddies

Magnuson may have requested people who are 2 miles from a group of 5 or 6 dealers Apr was confident in to make testing easier. I’m not sure what your dealer situation is but that’s the only reason I can think of.

Giving it to nobodys and guys who have shown their fists are made of ham makes zero sense if they’re trying to showcase it. Perhaps Apr think they’re going to be able to run a number on their own car. Which is I believe a manual car.

All in all the bogus dyno claims and crank conversions, and cutting out the most helpful guy who has sold more Apr tunes with his results than anyone at any dealer in the system is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Apr have either lost the plot…or they’ve lost control. Probably the latter.
