Progress for the B5 2.7T...5 year review

I’ll agree with that. But maybe it will be a catalyst that helps get the progression rolling again. Because it was always said the STKs were meant more for a DIYer, so options are pretty open on what can be done. So we may see some new turbo options which lead to some more innovative designs.

And while I’m new to the community it seems like there is a bit of an epicenter for the B5 S4 in central PA or just all of PA in general. CT too for that matter. And while it doesn’t seem like a lot of the guys are innovators I think a few of them may be. And there have been multiple threads over on AZ of those guys going the extra distance to get together and help each other out.

So combine a few of the things going on and maybe some progression will come…

Also. Sakimano, what are you looking for in terms of progression? Do you want to see faster 1/4 miles as progression? I doubt you’re looking for Dino queens, since I get the feeling you hate them, and there seems to be a lot in this community.

The car was brought into the shop on the first day with the methanol injection kit. I dropped the car off on November 16th and here’s what we needed to do:

  1. Install Coil Conversion Kit (done by 11/20/12)
  2. Install Spark Plugs (done by 11/20/12)
  3. Install 034 intake with 90mm MAF housing (was done by 11/26/12)
  4. Install 034 Carbon Fiber Y-Pipe (done by 11/26/12)

Then we needed a few parts (Fuel Pump and Slave Cylinder). While we were waiting for that stuff to arrive, another few things got done:

  1. Removed and installed replacement door cards (done by 11/27/12)
  2. Removed and installed new center arm rest (done about a week later)
  3. So the fuel pump came in and was installed on 12/04/12.
  4. The slave cylinder arrived on 12/06/12 and was installed shortly thereafter.

So a lot was finished at that point leaving only the methanol injection system and wide-band remaining before the tune. Between then and 12/26/12, Jason got the methanol lines running and only needed a coupler to connect two hoses on 12/26/12.

One thing led to another and the final ingredients arrived on the morning of 01/03/13 (one long piece of tubing instead of a coupler connecting two). Since then, we’ve just been waiting on this last piece of the puzzle (connecting the methanol lines). Oh, and I guess the wide-band will go in before the tuning begins.

what is ‘this last piece of the puzzle’? Anyway, I think this is hardly B5 progress lol. Perhaps an update in your thread.

I added that bit of information in parentheses for you. :stuck_out_tongue:

zero juwt sit tight jspec seems like a sokid guy and to be honest the small things take the most time. If you have 15 things that all take 25 min os so that will eat up an entire day. Thats if you go dirextly from one job to tye next. Even something like putting lines in or fitting a wideban isnt a 25mn job setting up can take that long… Whatever you do dont let b5 guys that dont actually jave a shop help. You would be better off pouring a galon of gas in the druver seat and dropping a match in the car

Loveshok being new to the b5 you are what they need but it will be forr not. The b5 isnt really tyat fast of a car its more hype and drama then anything. You have no advancements due to the ego factor. You have kids that ijstall turbos on tuere b5 and then they think there sae certified mechanics so they open a shop only to then force the more profitable products on people to stay afloat.

Then you have the kids that work from moms bastment selling stolen tunes and now they are tuners it all adds up to bullshit and lies to make every desision these copycat tuners or make shift shops seem better

What do you end up with…you end up with a guy who bought a bullshit turbo kit with a bullshit tune postinf a video of him racing a zo6 saying he rocked it and won…when in fact the truth comes out amd he got beat real bad…or you get a guy who self tuned his csr went to the track and when he ran slower then stock blamed it on someone elses and some other tune

^^Interesting read… 2013 is a new year…

Absolutely, Jnaut knows his stuff. I just wish the car I chose to run with wasn’t so difficult to work on. I went through it with Velocity Factor as well. I can just see shop owners walking into their shop with a smile on their face thinking, “It’s great to be the boss” and then seeing a B5 S4 in the garage and wanting to commit suicide. :stuck_out_tongue:

The b5 is a no win car. If the car does well you get attwcked by the slow guys. If the car is fast its probably gong to break when it breaks your mad. If the car is safe its probably slow then you still get attacked by the slow guys but then you add in the guys whos cars dont run they jump in…if you car is middle ground the people who claim to have fast dyno queen cars that mostlikely dont run still attack you and then they guys who are slow and clueless yell at you for logs. Then if you post logs they yell at you about it

In the end there is a few fates for the b5 sell the car forever have a project car that never runs or post a fake video of you beating a car that wasjt raceing you

Your last line there is funny. Otherwise, it’s just not like this at the BMW communities. It’s different. There’s far more camaraderie there.

Really? because when I go over there I see tons of 335i vs. M3 flamefests. Of course they’re quickly dispatched.

As far as shop drama though, I agree there is not much. It’s a 10x larger market, and as a result there is 10x more scrutiny. It helps drive out the liars and scam artists, both in shops and in user base. The Audi tuner and forum world is a drop in the bucket.

I believe BMW sold more black E46 M3s than Audi sold of all B5, B6, B7 S4, C5 RS5, C5 S6…in all colours, COMBINED.

Really…is that true…if so i never knew that very interesting

As a forum-frequenting S4 owner, I see a lot of S4 owners at each other’s necks. That’s not the way it was over on the 335i forums when I was a part of that crowd. I didn’t pay any attention to the M3 owners. I just beat on them unless they were modified themselves. Then I respected their accomplishments.

I never expected the car to be “fast” when I wanted one. What I think the B5 is great for is go lay down 400 awhp and have one hell of a DD. I feel it’s to heavy and over complicated to really be a true contender in “What is Fast”. And that’s just my opinion.

And why I’d love to be the one who revolutionized the platform and re started the fire. I doubt this is the platform.

If I wanted a balls out car truly the VR6 swap would be the way to go, and eliminate a lot of the problems I think. Or go with an older chassis and a 5cyl like an O’ so pretty AAN.

For me the B5 is gonna be perfect. It’s 4 doors, comfortable, has decent aftermarket support and I believe can be reliable.

So thanks for the compliment by my life situation and goals aren’t going to help with progress. But doesn’t mean I won’t offer my opinions and ideas to try and help move it forward.

Zero had many moving parts to his build. Unfortunately he got started with the wrong shop but on a positive note its been in the right hands at likely the most crucial aspect of the project. Holidays, New Years and a severe Polio outbreak brings us up to date.

I’m sure JNaut and his crew are doing their best. It should be comforting that he and at least one of his techs are Audi owners. Velocity Factor I believe was more focused on Subi’s and Evos which should have been a warning sign.

I’ve said it before and Notorious just mentioned it as well. If I were to turn back the clock, a tastefully modded K04 car is where I would go. Luvshook, keep this in mind, you’ll get your 400awhp, minus the drama, a nice well built car and a very capable one to boot. Basic maintenance along the way and it’s just as reliable as it was the day it left the showroom floor!

Here is some progress, I listed mine for sale today. Time to move on from the B5 chassis and over to a p-car (well truck actually)

I know this is my first post on this forum but I have been lurking for a while now on here and thought this quote and topic would be a great time to step in with my 2 cents. Ive been lurking long enough to know what gives your opinion validity on this forum and I was going to wait until my project was finished to say anything with substance. But I’ve been apart of audi forums for 5 years but rarely post and I’ve owned my B5 S4 for 7 years so I understand everything that is said in this thread.

I would just like to share what I’m doing as a DIYer. I do not work or own a shop or affiliated with anyone or done anything of substance. It’s not innovative or a groundbreaker but an overlooked aspect of builds that could help the progress of the platform.

This is a 500 whp variant of an intake manifold I designed for my own car. I have parameters for for a 700 whp variant.

Next I am designing an air-to-water heat exchanger.

Is that you Dustin?

Is this just something for yourself? Or something you make special order for people? Or even something you’d look into sourcing production for?

WHERE"S YOUR FUCKING TIMESLIP!!!

just kidding

Welcome to the site. Seeing people build stuff for themselves is an interesting thing. If the shops won’t innovate, the owners have to take matters into their own hands.

I wonder if that’s how JHM started!
