Total hater!!!
Well they came out with the 2.0t that’s fsi, the b7 one, that is a horrible engine, i know because I own one. You can tell it was the first of many revisions to a better fueling system. The hpfp design was self destructive. The revised variable cam timing was delicate, the list goes on and on. It was an engine that needed tons of work to get where it should be. It was also very underpowered. Back then and especially by today’s standards.
Then the b8 came out, fueling system was all figured out, proper injectors, a hpfp with a roller follower to extend lifetime significantly. Timing chain to avoid timing belt related failures, overall a much better engine.
Then the b8.5 came out, I haven’t taken a look at the engine but from what I hear it’s the same engine as in the mk2 allroad, and so now Audi finally made fully variable cam timing which is great, since they seem to be lining up in .5 liter increments. 2,2.5,3,4,5. Probably because they found a good rod ratio that worked for them, anyway since displacement in the 4 cyl wasn’t going to increase, the head is where all the power is gonna come from and they pulled through on that.
And on this fourth revision, which the a4 hasn’t received yet, they did some really great things. B6 to b7, the turbo grew very nicely, b7 to b8 the turbo grew again. I’m not sure about b8 to b8.5, but the newest gen runs a massive turbo, well massive for what you compare my turbo to, and they get away with it because of the design. There is no manifold anymore, like the ford ecoboost i4’s Audi is now making their 4 bangers the the manifold cast into the head, so you just bolt the turbo right onto the head, which reduces volume substantially and you can get away with a bigger turbo, twin scroll also doesn’t hurt. They revamped the cooling system so the car comes up to temp minutes faster, the bottom end was overhauled tremendously, the main journals were narrowed down to reduce the surface area the crank makes contact on,decreasing friction, they shaved several pounds from the crank, they use much better rods than in theb7. In the b7, you want to make 300 wheel hp you better have rods for that slight chance you predetonate. 5 or 6 guys have had bent rods from having an upgraded turbo and no rods.,this new revision 2.0t looks like it could do well over 400hp on stock rods
I could go on forever about it. It’s a superior engine in every way. And it should be it’s 10 years more modern than the original 2.0t, it’s just hilarious the amount of money you have to sink into a first gen 2.0t, you need a full engine build and turbo to compete with a stage 1 or 2 fourth gen
