Skywagon's Return to the Dragstrip

nice. We shld get that guy to post over here

It appears the GIAC car is slow? There are so many variables going on in a drag race.

It’s not really the drag race. The drag race is as static and straightforward as it gets. The variables are in the car and the driver. The drag race is variable free…that’s the beauty of it!

p.s. that guy went 12.08 on pump did so at … shocker…PBIR!

Is this known as a really fast track? I’ve heard people say the same thing about the track in Quebec where the guy ran the fastest stock B8/B8.5 stock time. Is there some kind of informal list of the fastest tracks somewhere here? Would be interesting.

FWIW - at least there were some controls there, namely the GIAC B8.5 and the APR S6. Not to say that they were running right/wrong, but those times should help validate this one? I don’t know much about stg 1 S6 expectations though.

Out of curiousity why would one track be faster than the other (downwind, or downhill etc. or something else)

drob, Yes… Cecil, Sacramento, PBIR, Quebec, Atco, and most of the sea level east coast tracks for that matter are where records are usually set…

Eddie, If they are NHRA/IHRA they are measured for slope and such… downwind can always be a help at any track just weather dependent… IMO the biggest reason is that all DA’s are not created equal… Starting at a lower elevation helps and allows for higher temps which helps you hook better while still having a low DA… AWD cars usually can get away with a colder track but RWD high HP cars are very tough to launch in cold temps, even with DR’s or slicks…

when you start at sea level and have good weather, it’s kind of hard not to run great times or be in the very best conditions to run great times.

I have noticed ABNORMALLY good results from PBIR for years. It’s in frigging florida. They run at 2000 feet of DA and set platform records. Makes zero sense. That 12.08 guy, sure it was cold in florida this week.

Just in general, it’s always strangely fast even when weather sucks. Almost like they’re correcting for DA.

It’s that good ocean air. Actually any norther guys notice the air in Florida feels different.

Thanks PT!

Interesting, so DA doesn’t capture everything going on, which makes sense. I understand that it’s the best simple metric though.

absolutely. I lived in Georgia for 12 years and Florida for 8. The air down there is thick full of moisture. Totally different from air up in the north. Since ive moved up here i get nosebleeds all time from the thin dry air.

I’d love some of that thin dry air…it’s like breathing soup down here during the summers.

The crisp air is one of my favorite parts of winter and snowboarding.

LOL i actually feel the exact opposite. I like the thick air and heat.

I like carribean air. Clears my sinuses in 3 days, I sleep better, and for some reason my skin gets darker.

;D

I will test that out next month and see if I’m the same

I will be as well… Where you going? The wife and I are taking another cruise…

same thing. Caribbean with RC. Just 4 days though.

Nice! You’ve cruised before? We are taking Qunatam out of NJ, it’s there newest ship… Will be cold the first day but plenty to do and excited to see the new ship, we always try to get on the new ones within the first 6 months or so… It’s going to China in May but the sister ship Anthem is coming… If you ever do a week try Oasis or Allure, been on them both 3 times and tons to do and sitting in Central Park at night drinking is totally awesome… Probably can’t tell but I’m a total cruise geek… lol

Oasis was AWESOME…

x2, nothing better than mountain air
