Stepping into a JHM Stage 1 kit

Yeah Dru was telling me a little about it. I’ll need to run a break in oil for at first and send the oil out for testing when that’s over. Not sure what the process will be after that. Regardless of the process, I’m obviously going to follow it to the ‘T’, document everything, and I’ll probably end up getting everything on video.

I have not gotten an eta yet. I e-mailed Keaton last week wanting an update and to let him know I was sending them some rims and tires but haven’t heard back from him yet. I’m anticipating sometime in January though. As far as I understand, the car has the standard self-contained oiling SC in it right now so they need to pull off the front end and and swap that out with the oil-fed unit, not too mention run feed and return lines for the oil.

I have a feeling we all may see video of the car before I get it back

Soon after I get it back, I plan on taking the car to 034 Motorsports to have a proper alignment done and corner weight the car. While I’m there the car will also do some dyno pulls . Maybe I’ll post the results, maybe not

I just love shoddy workmanship. Whoever last closed up my ecm box decided that the two screws in the back were just too hard to reach. God forbid they actually have to pull the windshield wipers off again. So, my son and I were out throwing the football in the front yard the other day, and all of a sudden he asked, “Dad is your car about to take off?”. I walked over and sure enough the radiator fan was blowing just as hard as it could. Pulled the fuse, and then opened the box and found this:

(yes, that is an almost 1/2" thick layer of ice)
Called my trusty friends at JHM, and they didn’t have any new ones in stock, but as usual they went the extra mile and found a used set in the shop which they next day aired out to me. Thanks again Dru! Will put her all back together today and wait for the next issue due to someone cutting a corner to pop up. Grrr…

^^ Who was last to work on you ECM box?

^its really quite common to not put those screws back in. Now that JHM is flashing cars, I guess it’s not as big of a deal, but i hadn’t had those screws in my car for over 4 years.

In fact, it was JHM he told me that trick lol.

I would guess that it wasn’t the fact that the screws were missing but moreso the fact that the alignment of the cover was slightly off if water had gotten in there.

I don’t know. It happened during the previous owners tutelage. The car came from sunny southern California so I am sure it was never an issue out there.

There’s lots of stuff that needs to have the ECU pulled, not just chip tuning.

i.e. the dealership removed mine and my pedals among other things the other day during a warrantee repair.

You are right, the cover being misaligned must have been the culprit. The cover itself is in great shape, not warped, no cracks so it must have just been shimmied open enough to allow in water. But again, if the rear screws were installed properly, the cover would never have shifted.

In the grand scheme of things, I will take small mishaps like this any day of the week over other potential calamities.

Hi Guys

I am also stepping into the stage 1 kit on my rs4 b7 down here in Australia
Delt with Jake and it has been some of the best service i have had.
Ive put my deposit down and im currently getting
Full exhaust made up 2.75 res with catted down pipes
JHM Shifter
JHM Intake Spacers
Stage 1 supercharger kit
JHM Clutch
Cant not wait. Fingers crossed i can get stage 2 by the end of the year when its released.
Still feel a bit funny about triming the front end of my rs4 tho lol

Another great supercharged member…oz welcome make a new member build post for you and your csr…I would love to see what all the fuss is about with the trimming. Everything I jave seen so far is jist other people trying to make us stuff to try and make the jhm kit not look so dominate over the other kits

Where about in Australia are you. Would love to see this car when its finished

Welcome to AR. +1 on starting a build thread for your car.

Will do
With the trimming i just hate the thought off cutting up the front end of a $65k car here
Jake assures me its on minor and not noticeable when everything in place.
Has anyone else considered boxing in the pod filter also?
Cops here love that sort of stuff

Awesome! That is exciting stuff. I agree, even though the trimming isn’t major it just bothers me a bit. But then I think, well I can handle a little trimming if it means I can run a low boost kit that produces big boost results (comparatively speaking)! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts and impressions.

I just received my kit last week and then full instructions yesterday. Hopefully going to jump into it this weekend. I don’t pretend to be technically knowledgeable or even a decent mechanic, so yeah, those instructions scared me some! :o But will keep the thread updated with progress results.

Located Newcastle on the East Coast of NSW
Ill start a thread soon. The car is only its way now from Melbourne i just bought it last week.
Havent even got it sitting in my shed and im already ordering parts for it.
Ill most likely fit the exhaust and clutch first then dive in to the blower.
Ive gone from a 500hp R34 GTR to a RS4

dude it’s very minor lol

I was checking it out on Dan’s car in California. You’re taking your entire exhaust off…eliminating the centre resonators…deleting the SAC from the clutch. These are much bigger changes. The trimming in behind the bumper is nothing.

Hell look at the APR kit…they’re chopping off the beautiful OEM RS4 magnesium manifold and replacing it with a worse, cheaper quality one riddled with APR logos lol.

Cool, im in the Windsor area on NSW. I have always wondered how the open air intake would go down with the cops over here, are you going to try and work it into the air box or just leave it the way JHM normally runs it

Thats good to hear.
Everyone here is oz is APR lovers. We have a APR dealer here but they still havent released a price for there kit.
With how bad our exhange rate is they are thinking $24- 25k for the kit with the pump and i cant order it direct i have to get them to do it then pay them to install . With a clutch looking at $35k
Cant jusify that sort of money when i can get a blower exhaust and all the other bits i mentioned for $14- 15k usd and do it myself.
Just wished i could get stage 2 straight away lol

I’m also looking closely at the JHM kit (another Australian RS4 owner). As APR have a dealer here, we get slugged with the good old “Strayla Tax”, basically take the cost of something in USD, ship it to Australia, then double the price (excluding shipping). I don’t mind paying extra for a good well engineered kit, which the APR kit is, but knowing that there is almost $10k of fat on a ~$28k kit puts me well off.

Everything I’ve read about JHM is top notch, and as they don’t have an Australian dealer network to not offend, we won’t have to pay a loaded price.

I’ll definitely be keeping track of your progress Oz RS4 to see how you go with the stage 1! I’ll be waiting for the Stage 2 though, as Townsville we have to deal with 30+ deg celcius & 80+ humidty for about 10 months of the year, which necessitates charge cooling. Which brings me to another point, the centrifugal setup looks like it would be easier to integrate water/meth injection as well you have a longer, post MAF intake area to inject.

My guess on Apr?

30,000 AUD

let me know if I’m right when it comes out…!
