I am using Terry from Berger motorsports, he has all the records thus far with stock and twins… He is the best tuner so far with results with the stock or the RB turbos. I can tell you that Shiv does know how to tune though and he is making some good power, well see how the engine lasts and also how fast he goes when he does it!
is there a 1/4 mile database for the 335/135 guys?
I tried to find one but couldn’t. I didn’t try hard though.
This isn’t a N54 specific thread, but moreso any boosted BMW thread. Still pretty neat to compare across platforms with all the various builds being done, as well as out of the BMW platform as well.

Yea, I think Shiv & Terry are the two best. Imo, if I was just doing basic bolt on’s, I’d probably be going with Terry/Berger as they lead the platform in testing & results. But it seems (mostly from what I’ve been told by others) that Shiv is the one to use for the real in-depth stuff, and for single turbo conversions etc, I’d say he’s gonna be the only real option for a little while to come.
Lol all this 335 talk right after i test drive one XD. Such a common car that they are way less expensive than an S4 (around $10,000 less than a comparable S4 in my area).
what are you referring to??? JHM never released dyno info for ANY product other than the intake manifold…and they had already shown the quarter mile time for the car, so that makes no sense.
Further, the ‘others’ release dyno info, then 6 months to 2 years later haven’t released 1/4 mile times. Why? We all know they’ve gone to the dragstrip. Well it’s simple…they struggle in the real world, so the dyno stuff holds attention while they try to work on the rest of the ‘kit’ to figure out why the car isn’t putting the power down (tune, cooling, etc.)
that doesn’t make sense. They’re within $1000 when comparably equipped brand new, and it actually favours the S4.
maybe you’re looking at a 2008 335i and comparing to 2010 S4s? The cars are priced very comparably (by design)
I said “was on the dyno”. Meaning they mentioned (after kit was released) but that they were on the dyno and had to fail back power to keep everything safe. Didn’t mean they ever made dyno claims. And again, I like the way JHM did it, keep it just except for a little peak and then boom, results and everything in one package that works! But they have a bit of a luxury in the B6/7 market of virtually no competition to speak of.
And I don’t know if we’re talking about “others” being in the B6/7 or BMW platform now lol. If it’s bmw’s then like I said, Shiv’s kit just released dyno numbers in the last month to my knowledge while working on tuning. And yes, tuners certainly release dyno numbers to build attention/promote sales. That can be good and bad. Good b/c it may keep customers holding out/excited till it’s “proven” or bad if you don’t live up to it, like PES/VF obviously. But I don’t think the Shiv kit is even for sale yet, so as long as his not swindling peoples money with the potential of a kit, then I don’t see whats so wrong with showing their progress.
The BMW crowd is MUCH more into seeing the car perform as the dyno claims than the audi world (kinda ironic since it’s all wrong right, i mean big rwd power means why bother). Now part of that is a bigger test base, and some people are going to blow money on the wrong products, but a bad product doesn’t make sales for 2 years like it can in the B6/7 world (again PES/VF kit etc).
I was referring to used. Comparing an 07 335i to an 07 s4. the 335i would be waaaay cheaper. New for new a comparably equipped 335i would be the same price as a new S4. BMW’s depreciate faster I guess, and are more common, hence the lower used price. Locally there’s about 100 used 335i’s, and maybe a dozen used s4’s (ranging from '01 to '11)
07 S4 is not a b8. Further the B7 (07) came pretty loaded while the B8 came pretty stripped, giving you the options to load it up or keep it modest. i.e. nappa leather is free on the B7…and is $1000 on the B8.
Base B7 price was around the same as the B8. Both around $47,000…but the B7 came with more stuff. Still…similarly equipped 335 (AWD, real leather, nav, heated seats, same trans etc. is going to be about the same as an S4 be it B7 or B8)
wanna try that again?
Lol not sure if we are disagreeing? A b8s4 and 2012 335i are comparably priced, it would be personal preference if I was choosing between the two. A b7s4 and 2007/08 bmw are very differently priced.
Example:
2007 S4 6spd: $36,500. And there’s only one I can find near me.
2008 BMW 335xi, fully loaded: $26-30,000 easily. Mint condition low mileage. Plus there’s lots of them to choose from. There’s actually a 2005 s4 locally that’s 14,000. which is RIDICULOUSLY cheap in my area… but I think it’s been pretty ragged on. Plus it’s bright yellow… Not my style lol.

I thought you were talking about wanting a B8 S4.

Anyway, a ‘list price’ of one car near you does not equal the market. Totally irrelevant. If you want, I’ll show you a 2007 that is for sale for $15,000. Does that mean they’re all $15,000? Of course not. The average price for a 2007 S4 is probably right around $20,000. Nowhere near 36,500.
The BMW range you showed is quite a bit higher than the range for 2007 S4s.
Oh I’d love a b8s4 lol. I was comparing used, I should have been more specific. Used Audi’s are pricey in my neck of the woods, and used S4’s are pretty hard to come by. I see wicked deals in the states and Eastern Canada all the time, but they are either really far away, or I’d have to import it, or both.
I spent a good 6 months looking for an A4 before I got mine, which was a ridiculous deal at $13,000 w/ 62k miles 2 years ago.
I had a bunch of fun in boots 335 tonight! Ran across m6, tt 350z, 2 gto’s, sti and m3.

Stiff competition! How did you make out?
Beat the GTo it was close. M6 has full exhaust tune and pulleys he beat me, the z beat me. Got the subbie
Nice! those tt z’s are pretty nutty. Oh man I just saw a youtube video of some kid with a stock gto who said he has all these mods on it and then he gets called out to race at a car meet and ends up sneaking away with the camera following him, wish I could find the link…
I just test drove a '12 S4 and 335i again this weekend. I liked the S4 a lot more this time, tried it in S and using the paddle shifters and whatnot. That little burbly fart sound it makes when you shift going WOT is so cool! The one I test drove was specced out exactly like I would want it, although I’d wait to see what the 2013’s look like before I buy one.
HOWEVER, test driving the 335i still felt more… fun. My GF came with me this time and we took turns test driving each one. I tried to deny it but we both enjoyed the 335i a lot more. She gave me a pretty hard time as she has an X5 and we always banter back and for about bmw vs audi… That being said I can’t see myself driving one, I’m pretty attached to the audi brand.
holy mother fuck
AMG S63 (5.5 bi-turbo) with the performance pack.
Edmunds InsideLine dyno’d the car…and WOW
537 WHP…STOCK…and 611 WTQ…STOCK…WTF!
the torque is just PLANTED at 600 wtq for ages, then it ‘falls off’ (to 420 wtq lol)
http://blogs.insideline.com/straightline/assets/s63_chart.jpg
it is amazing how much power cars come with stock these days, look how much tq you get so early on in the rpm range
That’s incredible how early that much torque comes on. I wonder how all that feels in the land-yacht S-class
I went for a “spirited” drive in an S600 a couple of weeks ago. That thing was so fast for how huge it is I swear it defied the laws of physics.
