petrashevsky was told straight up that he could buy the JHM clutch. It was a bit more money than he wanted to spend for something without a noted track record.
Of course he bought a clutchmasters setup, with a track record…unfortunately that is a terrible track record. Hopefully it works out for him.
you may have missed as you took a vacation from this site, but jimmybones, an Audi tech, said he thinks the problem is the re-using of the stock pressure plate in those FX kits.
Does the B8 S4 have the same clutch set up as the B8 S5? JHM offered a beta clutch + flywheel 4 months ago but I didnt bite due to the price of the beta. I would think they would offer it at half the cost to get it out there on cars testing.
yes its the same setup 99% of the way but they made the necessary adjustments to it tho. i refused the beta a few months back as well but am revisiting the idea of it again now
Best trap is Fonzie, of course, on 115.7, on a run where the car short-shifted 3-4 badly.
The RS5 is hugely helped by its 5000 rpm launch, which is why the ETs are so awesome. It would not fare so well 60-130, as stock.
On a 60-130 or highway pull, sure, the M3 in either DCT or 6MT would give a pump gas stage II trouble. But at the strip, from a dig, and honestly your friend is just another example, they are DOA. At ATCO it was silly, I raped so many of Marty’s N54 buddies, the ones that weren’t too scared to run. Almost any BMW I’ve driven sucked from a dig.
Another biggie I see from the IAT logs (Tsivas don’t forget IAT this time hahaha)…if you park your car there is easily 10-15 degrees of heat soak in the intake…only thing that gets rid of it is driving over 50-60 mph. Point is, try not to stop your car…this is typically why hot-lapping at the strip works so well. It’s plain to see in the logs. IAT is seeming to be a bigger and bigger factor than I originally thought in making power in this motor.
its a shame the rs5 doesnt look half as good as the b8 rs4 ;D they nailed it with the fenders on the new one its only failure in my eyes is the mind numbingly boring automatic trans
I still don’t think it would happen. Place is on lock down even during catastrophies - I think because it’s one of the emergency routes for gov peeps to move around when necessary.
I still am awaiting a response from the company that owns the old Calverton strip - unsused and prime for our needs. Although, rumor has it is currently being leased to car dealers for “Sandy” cars. Hopefully after that the owners will see the value in renting/leasing the property here and there. Who knows.
Yes our cool down between runs is usually 2 miles and 60 mph. Temps drop fast.
Doubt I am logging tonight Jspazz. I am only the crazy one to do fourth gear pulls and vag com/ vbox/ etc at same time. Most of these guys need help vag logging.
The RS5 will do well 60-130 in stock form. I’m not sure what you consider ‘well’ though. A stock S4 would be in the 16 second range. The RS5 will be 2-3 seconds quicker than that. So I think it’s doing well. Launch control really helps it, but don’t forget the stock Rs4 with 30 less hp, less tech, no launch control, no DSG…it was cutting 0-60 MPH times in 4.3-4.4 seconds bone stock. I am not so sure launch control is the only reason the RS5 puts up great ET. It has a lot going for it. Another thing to look at is the 1.82-1.83 second 60 foot times on my car and mistro’s RS4 posted at the dragstrip…they are not far off the RS5’s 1.77 best that Arin posted.
The DCT M3 has launch control and does way better than the manual cars. That 12.4 @ 114 stock time in car and driver is a great example. So they’re not DOA. If you put them in freezing cold conditions with brick tires, on a manual transmission car with no launch control, sure a stage 2 B8 S4 will win. So will my stage 0 RS4. It will also beat C63, ISF, basically any similar power RWD car you put in front of it in that situation.
Not sure on that, but it was much more expensive than the RS4 kit :o ~$700 more. I could not remember the exact reason. I then decided to go with the supercharger until I need the clutch upgrade
