have you seen a few in person? With the 20" wheels and the Ti package, man they are mean looking. A black one is probably the worst possible colour. Get a blue or red or white or grey one and they’re menacing!
Agreed, except the RS5 5000 rpm launch - yes it’s helping huge. Arins runs, 12.2 but only trapping 112…that’s quite a feat. I wish they could let the DSG in our car slip at 5000 rpm. That would help our cause even more.
that’s my point though…that’s not specific to the RS5 and its launch control. It’s final drive helps a boatload.
Look at what I just added there…my best 60 foot time with no launch control, 30 less hp than an RS5, no DSG, and 255 tires vs. the 275 on the RS5 = 1.82
Stock RS5 best I’ve seen is 1.77. That’s 5 hundredths. That’s nothing to freak out about. Certainly not huge.
The RS5 however beats my car to 60 mph by 2 tenths/20 hundredths. The first 60 feet are basically 1st gear…up to about 35-40 mph. The 0-60 is most of 1st+2nd. The RS5 makes up another 15 hundredths on my car in that short span from the top of 1st to 60mph (around 7000 RPM in second). It then makes up another 15 hundredths on my through the next 2 gears.
12.2 @ 112 is what 3 different RS4s have run at the strip with various mods. I think when you look at our (RS4/5) gearing, final drive, it should explain some of that amazing ET + modest trap. I think it’s pretty normal for the setup…not due to launch control.
Look where the tuned RS5 fits in with its older cousins…perfectly. Only one of these 3 RS4s had launch control (2000s4). The others launched old school.
I drove one at Audi sponsored event. Was my favorite car there, outside of the R8 V10. If it weren’t for the fact that I need 4 doors… I would probably have one right now.
conversions don’t work though. Guys always sell them when they’re done due to a certain empty feeling about it. It’s a weird thing.
Lots of people who go heavy into modding a car end up selling it shortly thereafter. There’s something more satisfying about factory hp/looks than aftermarket. For most folks anyway. The whole ‘you could have bought the cheap one and then done X and made the same power!’ argument often falls on deaf ears.
You could make do in a 997 or GTR even…you don’t need 4 doors until your dude’s a little bigger… I only have a few years left before mine will be too big for the back of those types of cars though…
putting shit in the back seat is a bit of a pain in the ass in a coupe, especially one with electric seats. Have to sit there and wait for it to move to get something in most cases. Just a hassle.
If you go coupe, it’s a good solid commitment. Not one I am willing to make.
To add to that even more- generally when modding a lower model extensively you end up finding out a million small weak points in the car that you would have never thought of. Like diff mounts, tranny mounts, suspension bushings etc… that’s what i went through in my UrS4 build.
