Saki… good analysis on the RS4/RS5 launch. I wonder if the RS5, without launch control, slips at 5000…I’d imagine so. I wonder how easy it would be to get 1.6 60’s in this car if our TCM allowed that…instead, it’s usually stuck at 3000.
I think bear is still thinking about a GTR…no? Like I said, I’m holding out for a GT3…
I take the girls in the NSX up front (no airbag)…they LOVE it. They are soooooo disappointed if I take any other car.

So does mine… She calls it a spaceship… Lol. I always say which one a tie fighter, x wing, cylon raider, viper, etc. I get a dumb look… Go figure…
Not sure what you mean by slips. I don’t think it launches at 5000 rpm by the way. I think that’s just where it triggers the launch control program. It probably launches from more like 3500 -3600 RPM.
Neat vids, I’d only seen the ones that hold 5000-ish rpm on launch. Yeah, definitely the B8 S4 doesn’t do that…it slips the clutch at 3000-ish rpm, everytime.
Not sure if anyone has seen the documentary on the Audi A8 in the series Transporter… Anyway, the stunt coordinate comments that even though they turned off all the traction controls they still weren’t able to complete the necessary maneuvers the stunt required. They ended up flying in Audi engineers to reprogram the ECU to turn off all the safety controls so they could complete the scenes.
I forgot to mention…my wife thinks the GTR is ugly as sin, like everyone else’s, she calls it a Transformer. Mind you, I’ve made her drive the NSX a few times, she hates driving that too, and pretends she forgot how to drive a manual.
997!! Do It!!
Oddly, I just talked to my old riding buddy, who had previously had a 996 C4s and then a 997 c4s - he just moved back form NY and picked up a B8 S4 (and a S1000RR). Going in the wrong direction…?
2 x I almost traded her in for very low mileage GTR’s… Both times I just couldn’t do it… The wife says keep the S as the winter car but it’s a lot of car to be relegated to winter duty…
I love the 997’s but dang they still are very expensive…
Yeah, I don’t know if it was a confidence thing but I never really had a desire for a liter bike… Something about the feel of a 600rr or GSX-R 750 and throwing it into the corners just felt right to me…
I do miss going to the track on the bike…it was getting expensive though, with replacing leathers, gas tanks, plastic, levers, helmets every other track outing when I’d push too far. I am lucky it’s nothing worse…the last couple years I rode, there was at least a couple bad events per year at lapping days alone. Made taking the car to the track that much easier to justify to my wife…
What do i find ridiculous now, is that there are cars now, unmodified, that might walk my TL1000, which would have done an easy 10sec/130mph…Times are sure changing…for the better…
My friend got a 600rr a few years ago now, at the time I had ridden dirt bikes but didn’t know much about sport bikes. I gave him a hard time about not getting a liter bike, so he let me take his around the block. Holy crap those things are fast, I think I would literally crap my pants on anything bigger.
