Oh of course, if you do your own dyno for sure the data is more valuable. Again, half the guys in this thread Dyno their own cars. There are still variables but Joe at joe’s Dyno is hopefully not going to skew anything. The only Dyno concern is with shops using it to market. Of course you guys want JHM to use it to market but as mistro outlined, ain’t gonna happen.

Just make sure Joe @ Joe’s Dyno doesn’t know what mods you have. We have seen cases at Dyno days where the operator changed parameters to favour the parts he was dealer for and to hinder the competition. Sad.

If you are looking to buy the JHM tune, you should try to speak to their tuner (count vohn on here) . The things he changes are mind blowing. Hundreds of parameter adjustments. Not just simple stuff. In driving dynamics alone his improvements make the car move, and this is not even going to show on a Dyno. Take the Apr 1320 kit example. Apr was seeing high 12s as the best 1/4 mile times. One of JHM’s turer’s friends in detroit got an early Apr kit and went 12. 7. He asked count vohn for help.

So he had a look at the tune and saw all kinds of weaknesses. He basically brought much of what he was doing with the jhm rs4 tune into a new tune for his friend, and wouldn’t you know it. The friend went 12.1@116-117 one summer night in detroit . Massive change.

Count vohn showed this timeslip to Keith @ Apr who first said ‘no fucking way!’. Then he asked to see it. Then they used that as the basis for a revised Apr 1320 kit tune, and we then saw Keith run 11.8 too.

Did he make any xtra power on the Dyno? Not anything crazy. The limitation of the Dyno is such that it won’t see poor tuning. It will show a power curve when you load it up in one gear. It won’t show you how well the car accelerates. EPL is famous for showing great Dyno sheets. Unfortunately their acceleration data sucks . Why? The Dyno shows the whole curve. Right? But not the whole story. There are tons of 500whp EPL tuned b5 s4s out there who such and run 12.3 at the strip. Impossible right? Not if the tune is shit. Sure it can make power on the Dyno, but why is the car so slow?

AMD had EPL tune their tvs1900 RS4 kit. Did you see this? They went to the strip. They did their best to hide the info but some of us found it. Low 12s @ 120. Really? From 500 whp? Typical EPL tuning.

AMD dumped EPL and had the car returned and went 11.36@126. All tuning, no hardware change.

So the Dyno hides a lot of warts unfortunately.

This is why the JHM tuned NA RS4s are running 12.2@112 and the other tunes (Apr, Giac, Mrc, EPL) are…not.

Yes, I do have an “official race course under my belt.” It’s rather entertaining that a 1/4 time is a great judge as to how “great” a quarter mile driver saki is. Yet an exact lap time on a road course “means nothing.” It honestly shows the lack of understanding a majority of you have of road courses. In all honesty, I bet if some of you tried it you would love it. And better yet, once you got home and compared your laptimes with mine you’d have a little more respect and understanding. It’s pretty simple. Slow drivers will have slow lap times. Fast drivers will have fast lap times. It’s really that simple. Go figure!? Seems like anything non 1/4 mile related here flys over everyone’s head.

But here lies the problem, and likely why jhm does not provide this info. It is about what the customer can duplicate…because if some dummy on the east coast goes 'hey, jhm said their exhaust makes x power, but mine made y…well jhm must be lying cause I have the numbers right here in front of me." Then we would be having this exact same argument all over again.
That is what they are avoiding by only publishing 1/4mile data. A 1/4 mile is a 1/4 mile no matter how you look at it. And as long as you are at an Nhra certified strip there shouldn’t be many variables besides da and driver skill.

No we haven’t lined up and done pulls against the JHM tuned car. He’s in VA and I’m now in ATL. However, next time we are together I will try some pulls together. I think he was a little timid to hit it when we were on the street (didn’t want to get a ticket) and we were headed to a track day. But next time we are together I will try it. I am curious as to how much is changed with the JHM tune, and if there is any damaging effects long term to those changes. I will speak to Count Vohn about that.

Word. If I tell you my lap times from the local track and how great I am… it sounds stupid. But if I post a 1/4 mile slip from the local drag strip, it’s a very solid form of performance measurement.

Really they avoid it not because clients won’t replicate. They undersell everything so it would easily be achievable. They would dyno +30 and then advertise +20.

The concern is they will advertise +20 and ABC tuning will advertise +38. ABC will NEVER track test their car. They will have loads of excuses why.

So you now have a dyno from JHM and a dyno from ABC. You also have a quarter mile from JHM but nothing to compare it to, so what do you do to compare ABC VS JHM?

VF Engineering as I said above used to sell with the dyno. Then one of their customers was foolish enough to race JHM. The JHM car made 320 WHP all motor on the dyno. The VF claimed 420. Here’s the race. Pretty much dead even. When JHM turns on the nitrous (their 400 whp nitrous kit) it’s lights out.

I’m sure you remember psychology 101 where you try to isolate the independent variable of what you are testing and the least amount of additional variables help to ensure the validity of your results?

Toad course has many many variables - from driver skill and (many) turns to mechanical parts like the engine and components like brakes and suspension. It would be hard to tell people with any validity that one change made a huge difference here.

1/4 mile has less variables. It goes in a straight line - once.

Someone stated that it’s still difficult to know if there are performance improvements if the person isn’t a great driver or the track prep is terrible. This of course affects the ET - but as long as that person can remain pressing on the go pedal from start to finish - in the correct gear - their trap speed will help indicate the cars potential power.

The race with me versus the Z06 illustrates that. He had very little traction but still was able to run 131 MPH traps. This number still helps him to see his cars performance output apart from the horrific (for his setup) 11.9-12 second ET’s he produced.

So - my point - is that a 1/4 mile run is (quite ironically speaking for this thread) - a much more realistic and applicable test than a dyno pull.
