Jfonz is tuning B8's now...

I am not familiar with jfonz or the history of solo but I am interested in some competitive pricing for ECU tunes on the B8 S4 platform. Without saxon I doubt anyone would have ever gotten an EPL tune. It seemed like he was the one and only guy with it and seemed to be championing them fairly hard. Now with Solo and Unitronic providing tunes (regardless of their 1/4 or dyno numbers) I would hope that competition would bring the price down. It doesn’t matter for me because I already have one but the price for them is obscene. Not to mention I would want nothing more than the ability to flash at home but I doubt I will ever see that in my lifetime.

As far as Audizine goes we all know Anthony caters to the vendors and its been that way since I originally signed up. Its unfortunate but that forum has the most traffic in regards to the current platform but it is what it is. That oemplus nonsense is laughable but unfortunately par for the course over there.

d.p., I hear you… As for EPL, no one would get it and shouldn’t because it’s not very good as Saxon’s times with it and with APR proved… The same will happen with Solo/Jfonz/Rabbit or whatever they go by next week… EPL was what 4 years to market after APR and 2.5+ after GIAC… For me I’m not as price concious as others I care more about inovation and improvements… APR used to do that for us and I believe GIAC still does so that’s where my future $‘s will go if APR doesn’t have anything new by spring… Id’ rather pay $500 more but get something that performs at peak levels and is reliable with good support…

As for Vendorzine I hear you on the traffic but most of that traffic is just noise IMO… Don’t get me wrong I spend too much time reading over there but it’s more entertainment… Toni thinks he can control people because of his “power” on that site so after what he did to me and then lied about it I’ll continue to tell the truth about them and while it probably doesn’t hurt them it makes me feel better! LOL Besides if I help a few folks not make bad decisions then it’s worth the time and effort and we end up getting the good folks over here anyway…

Regardless of whether you’re conscience about price the fact remains the price of tunes are high. Not to mention the price they charge for the pulley and belt which, IMHO, is just a money grab.

In the end I am happy with GIAC. I had to deal with a do nothing tune for 5 months before they did anything about it and I still have to deal with driving back and forth to my shop to get flashed back to stock. And for what I paid, I shudder at what DSG guys paid, flashing at home should be an option in this day and age.

I guess we just have to wait and see what if anything comes of Unitronic and Solo.

Depending on the company you’ll find the price per product is in relation to their interests in recouping investment costs and collecting on possible insurance payments for damages. In the case of APR your premium covers supplemental support in some of the early stages of the tune. In the case of the RS4 APR helped in some fashion pay for replacement of motors. I’d have to assume GIAC would adhere to those same business costs.

You’ll find development quickly stops if companies don’t see a return on their investment. Thankfully most of the newer car owners don’t mind spending money with the companies that engineered something rather than spending money with those that just copied something someone engineered. You’d expect to see prices drop relatively soon as the b8 S4 has now been out for 5 years. The best thing unitronic can do is offer a well priced tune. While unitronic has zero credibility with the 3.0t motors they actually have a real brand name.

Something to consider is the future development costs. I have no idea what’s going on with APR and their stage 3 plans but a good way to help show there’s good money to be made is continuing to support the companies reinvesting in the platform.

More killer dyno results… Glad we drive/race our cars on the dyno… Tunes been out years but still no results… Well they dynoed 30+ HP more than my car so it had to be good, right? lol

Wonder what the B5 mentioned in the post runs the 1/4 mile in? Probably makes a ton of HP on that 120 tune ::slight_smile:

Using a b5 as a benchmark used to be useful. Now it’s useless. Case in point…two jconz frankenchina stage 3 cars that ran 14 second 1/4 mile times as their best of the day and a jconz Tial 770 car dyno’d about 200 whp less than expected.

Then an EpicConzTuning Tial 770 car hit the dyno and made 2008 K04 numbers…430 whp.

He’s running a tune with meth, tuned for meth, and a full stage 3+ build. Pretty incredible that these guys still fall for this shit. I like how he has to wait till 4200 RPM to make 350 wtq. lol.

[quote=S4matt]Took the car to the dyno today. Boosting around 28psi on tial 770’s. Only made 432 hp. Have water meth injection. I feel like something is wrong here. Was a mustang 150 AWD dyno. Thoughts?

Yeah I saw that which is why I made the comment ;D

I still can’t fathom why people would go “beta” test their cars with these guys. Especially the cars that are still < 2 years old.

I figured it would only get better…

Sure we should just trust these dynos since they are so much more accurate than a trap speed or dsg pass… It’s not like you are the owner or someone who would benefit from these inflated numbers, oh wait that’s right he is the owner posting under a average joe screen name… Where’s Toni enforcing vendor rules when we need him? lol Good for blackbenzz to correct him…

How many times have they changed the name of their company? Is jfonz still in cahoots with itguy? Hard to believe anyone takes these guys seriously.

Who knows what’s up with Jconz, silly rabbitt, itguy, etc.

Well when you post pretty dyno sheets that quite honestly show some pretty killer numbers most of the folks on vendorzine will eat it up and won’t ask for any other support… Thus the reason they try to squash any 1/4 mile et/trap speed thoughts with BS excuses… Again, it’s not like they could manipulate their dyno numbers, right? Would love to run one of their DSG “tuned” cars, I’m sure I’d get killed…

And it’s posts like this that ooze shadiness:

[QUOTE=SoloMotorsports;10442379]Now that we have a shop B8 s4 we will definitely get out to the track.
Lately we’ve been a bit busy with our customer cars so time for the track is limited.
We did make it out to the wannagofast half mile event in Ocala Florida last weekend. We were there mainly to run our B5 s4 race/street car (3.0L Gtx 2867’s)… Unfortunately we destroyed the CM 850 twin disk clutch launching on one of the first 120 octane revisions. We will have some track days coming up later in the year but we have to take care of business before we can enjoy the track.

First, impress the forum that you actually own a B8 (that’s really not saying much, though. Only proves they’ve been testing on customers’ cars all these years). Then, when pressed with the obvious question about 1/4 mile data, dish out the excuse train (we’re too busy lol). Finally, distract everyone with some irrelevant story about your old and beaten up B5. Guess that strategy works if your audience is a bunch of suckers (which is what jconz is counting on).

Btw - they have the opportunity to attend a half mile event . . . yet they bring the B5 instead of the B8??? That makes no sense - would have been a great opportunity for them to take some promo vids showing how awesome their B8 software is running. But then again, suckers . . .
